Challenges of Stay at Home Mom Entrepreneurs

While starting your own business may sound like the dream job, this isn’t always the case. An entrepreneur may face many challenges when starting a business and one the most common challenges entrepreneurial moms face is the challenge of being a stay-at-home mom while making the transition to an entrepreneurial adventure.

In order to get through this challenge, stay-at-home moms need to be passionate about their business; while most entrepreneurs are very eager at first; their excitement may start to wind down, especially if the business is slow at first. In most cases, moms will end up working more than usual during the first years in order to build up their business, which is why passion and drive are must-have traits for any aspiring entrepreneurs.

Learning to differentiate between your business goals and your personal goals is also an important skill to have. You will need to learn how to balance these two in order to give these two very important aspects of your life the required amount of attention. One of the main reasons why moms decide to become entrepreneurs is because they want to combine their professional and personal goals. By differentiating these two goals effectively, we can easily identify areas that need improvement.

While one of the most important steps in becoming an entrepreneur is drafting a business plan that is well-researched and realistic, entrepreneur moms may also consider drafting a personal plan that includes important steps towards family development, and one that touches on personal development goals for family members as well as establishing a somewhat strict schedule that will allow you enough time to handle both personal and professional matters without neglecting either side.

One of the biggest challenges of stay-at-home entrepreneur moms is space management; it is very easy to get both mixed and let one take over the other, especially in homes where space is very limited. If you have an extra room at home that you can turn into an office, then by all means do so. This will give you an opportunity to have a dedicated workspace that will put you in the right mindset when it comes to meeting clients, making business phone calls or drafting business documents while looking professional and driven.

Another challenge that moms will inevitably face is the stress that staying at home all day will cause; after spending a good part of the day taking care of the family issues at home and then spending the rest of the day working on their own home-based business will generate some tension and stress. A good way to fight this stress is to make sure that you leave the house for extended or repeated periods of time. Make time for yourself and go grab a cup of coffee, take a short walk around the block, go to the park or play with the dog in the yard. Fighting monotony is key when it comes to becoming a successful entrepreneur and a successful parent.
